You are a new entrant to the IXP industry, what was your first impression?
I got lucky and attended the 15th EPF in Rome, literally during my first week at work. I was surprised by the informal and relaxed vibe of the conference, and impressed by the great social events in the evenings. Also, everyone was super friendly and they all seemed to know each other really well. I was finally beginning to understand what people in the IXP industry mean when they say "community“.
What is a memorable experience from any of the conferences you have attended and why?
It must be the Gala Dinner at the Royal Yacht Britannia – it's simply one of those 'once-in-a-lifetime' experiences you never forget and tell your grandchildren about. I remember having goosebumps while boarding and hearing the Scottish bagpipes.
You were involved in organising Peering Days 2023, how was this experience?
It made me realize how much time, effort and hard work goes into every conference. We released a new meeting planner, Meet, and got a really good feedback, so that was great. The most rewarding part though was seeing people enjoying themselves during the social events.
Describe GPF in eight words:
SoCal spring, Pirate cruise, seafood, margaritas, networking, jetlag. 😊
Name a technical word or area that you would like to learn more about? (for example, route servers, IXP traffic, MANRS etc, regulatory for IXPs).
All of these, actually!
Name a presentation that has stood out to you and why? (this can be from any conference you have attended or organised).
It was Olena Lutsenko´s presentation “Keeping Ukranian Internet Running” at EPF - simply for its importance and relevance.
Also, Flavio Luciani´s presentation about the 'Network Live Content Distribution' at Euro-IX was entertaining. 😊
