Starting an IXP

This section of the Euro-IX web site provides information about the governance and management, operations, infrastructure and cost considerations in starting up and running an IXP.

It is not possible to define a specific set of instructions for starting an IXP; every new IXP will face different challenges, and operate under different economic, technical and legal circumstances. Furthermore there is not one 'right' model; today's successful IXPs all have different histories and structures.

However it is hoped that anyone involved in the formation of an IXP will benefit from the overview of the way in which some of the existing IXPs developed and are structured today, and the notes, within these pages.
